No—but the collection is grounded in traditional, time-tested values, and many of the books reflect a Christian worldview, either openly or quietly woven into the story.
I’m a Christian, and I care deeply about offering books that uphold goodness, beauty, and truth. Many of the books I’ve chosen are written by people of faith—not because they’re writing sermons, but because their worldview shapes how they write about life, struggle, and meaning.
For example, C.S. Lewis (The Chronicles of Narnia) and J.R.R. Tolkien (The Lord of the Rings) were both Christians whose books are full of wonder, sacrifice, and moral clarity. Their stories are widely beloved by secular and faith-based readers alike because they tell the truth about what makes life hard—and what makes it beautiful.
We also include books like William Steig’s illustrated stories (The Amazing Bone, Sylvester and the Magic Pebble, Boris & Amos), which often explore surprisingly deep emotions like grief, fear, and longing, wrapped in thoughtful storytelling and original language. Or Lois Lowry’s The Giver, which doesn’t preach but dares to ask big questions about memory, pain, and what makes life worth living.
The Bible itself includes the full range of human experience, including violence, betrayal, sorrow, and redemption. Great books do the same. Some of the best stories in this library include real moral struggle, danger, and sadness—not to shock, but to shape character and stir courage. Not every book is “easy.” The world is complex—and the books we’ve chosen reflect that.
That said, we draw clear lines: you won’t find trendy, agenda-driven material here.
Because every family has different convictions and sensitivities, we encourage parents to take an active role. What’s appropriate for one child might not be for another, and that's okay. We provide a thoughtful, curated starting point—not a seal of approval for every reader in every season.
If you’re looking for meaningful, well-written books that respect your children’s intelligence, stretch their imaginations, and align with enduring values, this is a library you’ll love. If the presence of faith in a story is something you avoid, Fallen Sparrow may not be the right fit.
We’re here for families who want more than fluff—and who believe that reading can shape the heart as well as the mind.
Who is Welcome?
Sometimes homeschooling gets painted with a glossy picture: perfect families with spotless, decorated, houses; polite children who cheerfully do their schoolwork and chores; and parents who never raise their voices. But the truth? We're a lot more human than that. Behind the smiles and the stacks of books, there are struggles we hide—prodigal children, trauma, deep loneliness, loss, and financial ruin. Some families have walked through divorce, child rebellion, infidelity, police involvement. Some are quietly battling self-harm, pornography, depression, and exhaustion. We feel guilty that our kids are glued to screens and we wonder if the dream of raising readers who love learning is already out of reach, irrelevant in the face of the actual life we're enduring.
At Fallen Sparrow Library, we don’t pretend to be experts, to have quick solutions, or to suggest that changing a family is easy. But the God we serve knows exactly what your family needs. And so often, His work begins in a welcoming community and an honest statement like: “You know what? This is where we are right now.”
Here, we cling to the promise that “not one sparrow is forgotten by God.” Our logo—a fallen sparrow with two pennies—is a reminder that every child, every parent has worth in His sight. Just as a sparrow’s silence once warned miners of hidden dangers, our library exists as both a gentle warning and a safe escape from today’s cultural poisons. Our shelves are filled with stories of struggle and redemption because life—your life and mine—is full of struggle and redemption. You don’t have to walk that road alone. If you long for a place that honors family, upholds truth, and helps you take the next small step toward peace and wholeness, you are welcome here.
