    Where are you located?

The Fallen Sparrow Library is currently in a storage unit near the Round Rock YMCA. Five counties—Williamson, Travis, Hays, Bastrop, and Caldwell—fall within approximately a 45-minute drive from this location. We are searching for our permanent home in the nearby area to best serve the 75,000+ homeschoolers in Central Texas.

    ‣
    What are your hours?

While we are in the storage unit, lending is by appointment, but once we get a permanent location, we will have regular hours three days a week

Aren't libraries supposed to be free?

It’s true that taxpayer-funded public libraries are free to use, but that doesn't mean they’re free from cost—or that they meet every family's needs.

Fallen Sparrow Library is a different kind of library. We’re a privately funded, membership-based library created by Teresa and James Dear. They've personally invested thousands of dollars and countless hours into building a collection that reflects timeless values, supports homeschool learning, and brings peace back to childhood.

While public libraries are governed by county systems and supported by taxes, Fallen Sparrow is supported by its members and guided by a mission—not a trend or political agenda. That means we can carefully curate our collection, protect childhood innocence, and offer hands-on educational resources you simply won’t find elsewhere.

Many families want to build a thoughtful home library and learning space, but quickly run into financial and storage limitations. That’s where a subscription library shines:

    • A single living book, now out of print but a beautiful, timeless resource, can cost $25–$60 online. We’ve purchased them so you don’t have to.
    • A good microscope setup can easily cost over $300, and that's before you add agar plates, prepared slides, or dissecting tools—often used just for one high school credit.
    • Phonics tools or early math manipulatives aren’t expensive, but most families only need them for a short season. Borrowing makes more sense.
    • Toys like pretend food, games, and puzzles are fun—but offer temporary interest. When you borrow them instead, you get the fun without the clutter.
    • The library’s materials—books, kits, games, and tools—have been hand-selected with care, not crowdsourced based on trends.

Your monthly fee helps sustain and expand a library that’s been built with love, sacrifice, and intention—a library that reflects your values. For many families, it’s not only worth it—it’s the library they’ve always wanted but could never find.

    ‣
What if these books are too hard or deep for my kids? They’re used to screen-based content and simple stories.

That’s a completely valid concern—and you’re not alone. Many kids today are used to fast-paced shows, short attention spans, and books based on characters they already know from screens. Making the shift to richer, slower, more thoughtful books can feel like a stretch at first—but that’s exactly why it’s so worth it.

The books in this library are chosen to grow children’s attention spans, vocabulary, and imaginations—not just entertain them for a moment. Beautiful language and deep stories might feel unfamiliar at first, but they are formative. They help children become more thoughtful, more attentive, and more emotionally grounded over time.

You don’t have to dive straight into the deepest end. Start with read-alouds. Choose shorter chapter books with strong storytelling. Read a page or two at a time. Let the language wash over your kids. It might be slow going at first, but growth always starts small.

We’re not here to shame anyone’s starting point! We’re here to help families build something better—something lasting. And the good news? Children are remarkably resilient. They can develop a love for great books. It just takes time, patience, and the right kind of stories.

    We’ll help you find them.

Do you have donation and sponsorship opportunities?

The Fallen Sparrow Library exists because of families and friends who believe in the value of good books and want to pass that gift on to others. There are many ways you can join us in building and sustaining this work:

    Sponsor a Resource

Families and businesses can sponsor one of our themed Pouches, Discovery Boxes, Hobby Boxes, or Homeschool Kits. Each sponsorship includes a laminated card with your family name or business informational literature in the set. This way, members see the story behind the gift. Minimum donation is $60. Sponsorships of existing pouches are also welcome! We are building dozens of sets right now that need funds to be completed.

    Donate Books

We gladly accept gently used books. Some will be added to the library collection, and others may be sold in our ongoing book sale to raise funds for the library. Every donated book helps!

    Shop Our Book Sale

Our book sale offers paperback or unneeded titles at affordable prices. All proceeds go directly to supporting the library.

    Help Through Everyday Giving

    • Shop our Amazon Wish List, which is regularly updated with titles and supplies we need.
    • Donate a junk car
    • Consider an endowment or legacy gift to ensure the library continues to serve future generations.

    Give Financially

Straight financial donations of any amount are always welcome. They go toward expanding our collection, maintaining resources, and keeping memberships affordable for families.

    Give Time and Skills

Not all donations are financial. We welcome help from volunteers willing to:

    • Organize or catalog books
    • Assist with handyman or other skilled services
    • Help with fundraising events such as benefit yard sales

    Spread the Word

Sometimes the greatest gift is simply sharing. Tell friends, your homeschool group, or your church about Fallen Sparrow Library. The more families who know, the more this library can grow into the legacy space it’s meant to be.
